Six days in and I’m still enjoying myself with the game, still very eager to keep going. I’m very pleased with this.
I wanted to scale back this morning and go through some lessons, but I couldn’t resist trying the new song of the week from the forum; Spirit of Radio by Rush. I don’t really know the song, but I know that Rush certainly isn’t an easy band to play along to. One quick run through in learn a song before trying score attack. I got through it in easy, but really struggled with the timing as it changes a fair bit throughout. It gave me a good opportunity to work on some of the strings I haven’t really touched this past week.
I went back to the lesson list and worked my way through three of the early ones on the list; Picking 101, Shifting 101, and Sustain 101. Picking 101 looked at alternate picking, something that I’ve vaguely learned in the past but I don’t do. The refresher here was handy and hopefully I can really start trying to put this in.
Spent a bit of time playing RU Mine? using riff repeater to keep the difficulty down as I was struggling with the sudden jump the other day. I seem to have ramped back a little from the mastery level I’d got to previously, but I think I’m at a level I can work at.
To finish off I went back to Sweet Mountain River. Still didn’t better my song but I was amused at how it didn’t get better. I kept making stupid mistakes leading up to the solo, and in random places that I shouldn’t have been. I kept restarting the song. And kept going wrong. Eventually, I cracked it. Got to the solo, hadn’t missed any notes, going better than I had before, utterly tanked on the solo.
I hung my head in shame and put the guitar down for a cuppa.
But I had a good session this morning, about two hours and got a lot out of it today.
