Decided to start today with one of the lessons, and was recommended to start with Chords 101. This introduced me to chords gently through the use of E, Em and Em7. I never picked up chords and chord progressions very well, so I think this is a lesson I will be going back to a lot! This was the first lesson I had tried on Rocksmith and really liked the format of it – good video to watch and repeat. While there’s nothing that would beat an actual teacher in front of you, this is a good start.
From there, I went back to RU Mine? and played with the riff repeater for as while as recommended to me in the song menu, although I found that the bits that it recommended I repeat were bits that I didn’t think I’d had any problems with, and were at a level I had already gone past in the song. But actually it was nice to play the bits over before launching into the full song. I also managed to increase my overall mastery to somewhere approaching 40%.
After this, I decided to take on the SOTW from the forums: Sweet Mountain River by Monster Truck. I’ve never heard this song before, but I went straight in on easy on score attack mode. To be honest, it wasn’t a bad first attempt, with about 85% accuracy. I really liked the song, and it was fun to play but the solo threw me somewhat and I messed that up almost completely! Will need a lot of practice on that one to get it right. Don’t think I’ll get beyond easy on that one by the end of the week. But in between a bit of riff repeater and a couple of other goes, I managed to get over 90% accuracy, and nearly, nearly into 6 figures for my total score.
The plan-ish for tonight is to pick another song and give it a go alongside RU Mine? again, and also to run through the Chords 101 lesson again.
